So you think you can groom dogs?

Handy information to consider before taking the leap

You’ve read through our “Benefits of becoming a franchisee” blog, you love dogs and you’re ready to lose the leash and become your own boss. Yay! Before you start on your journey, here are a few points and some handy information to read through and consider.

Educate yourself

You won’t just be washing gorgeous puppies all day – you will have to become a business owner. There’s homework to do before putting ink to paper and cementing yourself as a member of our team. This will continue during your role and can be one of the downsides of becoming your own boss, but with 20 years of proof we know the positives far outweigh the negatives!

Once you have learnt more about the ins and outs of a Blue Wheelers life, you will have a greater chance of business success. You will be able to recognise franchise opportunities and most importantly, follow your own rights and responsibilities under the Franchising Code Of Conduct.

The Code can be used to check that your agreement is fair. It’s also there for you to read through if you have any concerns about business operation. You can head to https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2014L01472 to read the full Code Of Conduct.

We recommend signing up for the free online pre-entry franchising education program run by Griffith University and funded by the ACCC. It gives prospective franchisees a realistic understanding of operating a franchise and an introduction to the Franchising Code of Conduct.

Do your research

Now, your dog definitely shouldn’t eat this part of your homework! It’s important to review all the documents provided to you by your franchisor and contact them if you have any key information that you want to follow up with. It’s highly recommended that you seek professional advice from a lawyer and/or accountant so they can help you fully understand your rights and responsibilities under these documents.

It’s also recommended that part of your research includes speaking to existing, as well as former, franchisees so you get a feel for a day in the life of a mobile dog groomer. As part of your due diligence we will be happy to help you reach out to some of our Groomers so you know exactly what you’re getting into.
